Mistmantle

Maple was not born on Mistmantle, but on Swan Isle. When the current swan lord,  Lord Whitefeather, sent her to ask for a certain herb to cure Lady Whitefeather's cough, she fell in love with Mistmantle. When she returned to Lord Whitefeather with the herb, she asked permission to return to Mistmantle to stay. The swan lord agreed, and she left her home to return to Mistmantle.

Eventually, she was promoted to a member of the Circle, then a captain. Swans will occasionally fly over the mists to visit her, sometimes carrying squirrels. When they land, Maple brings them food and water herself. The young animals -and some of the adult ones- look forward to these visits, as the swans let animals ride on their backs.

Maple is a brilliant fighter and entertainer, and her singing is excellent. No animals are afraid to approach her. She can never stay mad at a young animal for long, although she holds grudges for a long time.

Maple is a good swimmer and climber, and can run fairly fast. Her quick wits and sharp mind make her someone most animals wouldn't want against them. She lives in a chamber by the Spring Gate so she can be near to the swans, whenever they visit.

Starra is an orphaned baby otter who is hardly ever still. Although she doesn't talk much, she can often be seen imitating older animals. Starra is a very good actress, and loves to sit in the priest's turret eating berries.

Scarlet of the Tides can swim as well as any otter-and better than some. She is clumsy on land, always tripping over her own paws. But her heart is in the right place, and she would protect her friends at any cost.

Song is a sweet otter who is very small for an otter. Always bright, she is always there when something bad happens to cheer everyone up and point out the ups in life.

Silver is a quiet, secretive little squirrel who is somewhat arrogant. She always has to be the center of attention, and will do anything to get there.

Sable is an otter who never dreams, hopes, laughs, or jokes. She is always sensible and rarely smiles, just like her ancestor, Tay.

Pine is a good-natured squirrel who hates to be stared at. He is very cautious, but will do anything to avoid being called a coward. Somehow related to Juniper.

Thorn is a hedgehog who is fairly shy and loved by all. A descendant of Hope, he is a bit short-sighted and always willing to help.

Cloud is an odd-colored squirrel with a talent for art. She hopes to someday work on the Threadings, and has quite a few new ideas. Her home is filled with weavings and sketches that look so real they seem alive. She always doubts herself and her talents.

Kayla and Ripple are twins, but are so different it's pretty much a miracle they're still talking. Kayla (left) is a clever otter who loves little ones. She is like a nursemaid to all the young animals on the island. Ripple (right) is a fun-loving jokester who is always smiling. He is unconciously impolite and has many bad habits.

Lord and Lady Whitefeather are the current monarchs of Swan Isle. Lord Whitefeather (the one flapping his wings) is more generous than his ancestor, Lord Arcneck. He is proud and arrogant, though. He is very fond of young animals and often lets the children of Mistmantle ride on his back. Lady Whitefeather (the other one) is very aloof and vain. She can be nice at times, but at others, she won't even look at anyone below her own beak.
